How to Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit

Celsius and Fahrenheit describe the same temperature using different scales. Celsius is used in most countries, while Fahrenheit is common in the United States. Converting between them is useful when comparing weather reports, cooking temperatures, and other measurements.

Celsius to Fahrenheit Formula

Multiply the Celsius temperature by 9/5 and then add 32.

Example with a Negative Temperature

The same formula works below zero. For example, -10°C becomes 14°F. There is no separate formula for negative Celsius temperatures.

Under standard atmospheric pressure, water freezes at 0°C (32°F) and boils at 100°C (212°F). These familiar points are useful for checking whether a conversion looks reasonable.

For the reverse conversion, subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value and multiply by 5/9.
